• The 4 ZTL gates and hotel guests

  On the Rupe the ZTL is monitored by 4 electronic gates: Corso Cavour at the entrance from Piazza Cahen, Corso Cavour at the junction with Via Cesare Nebbia, Corso Cavour–Piazza della Repubblica (exit) and Piazza Febei at the start of Via Maitani. Guests of accommodation in the historic centre may drive through after a request or notification, sent within 72 hours of passing to the certified e-mail [email protected]; day permits are issued at the Via Roma 3 office, open daily 8:00–19:00.

• A1 Orvieto exit and Rome airports

  From north and south, leave the A1 Autostrada del Sole at the Orvieto exit, about an hour from the Roma Nord toll gate and about 1 h 40 from Firenze Sud; the historic centre is 5 km away. The nearest airports named by the Comune's tourism portal are Rome Fiumicino (130 km) and Rome Ciampino (140 km).

• Funicular closed, shuttle bus to the centre

  In 2026 the funicular between Orvieto Scalo and the Rupe has been closed for maintenance: as of 27 July 2026 reopening still required ministerial authorisations and functional checks, with no date set. Until it reopens, Busitalia runs a replacement shuttle bus between Orvieto Scalo and the historic centre with equivalent capacity.

• Shuttle times: station to Piazza Cahen

  The shuttle bus replacing the funicular runs from Piazza Matteotti (railway station) to Piazza Cahen at the same frequency: on weekdays first run 7:10, then 7:30–20:30 every 10 minutes; on Sundays and holidays 8:00–20:30 every 15 minutes (times announced on 20 June 2026).

• Campo della Fiera: lift and escalators

  The covered Campo della Fiera car park (ex Foro Boario), on the west side, is reached from the SS71 Umbro-Casentinese or Strada delle Conce and costs €1.50 per hour. To reach the centre take the lift to Via Ripa Medici (listed as running 5:00–2:00) or the escalators and moving walkways to Piazza Ranieri (7:00–21:00). At Orvieto Scalo, the Piazza della Pace car park near the station is free for cars.

• EVs: free blue bays in only 3 squares

  Since 1 September 2026 fully electric cars park free and without time limit in the centre's blue bays only in Piazza d'Armi, Piazza XXIX Marzo and Piazza Angelo da Orvieto; in Piazza del Popolo, Vivaria, Marconi, Cahen, Ranieri and Vitozzi they pay. The registration document must be displayed with field P.3 (electric power) clearly visible, or an 'EL' permit; hybrids are excluded.

• Corpus Domini: centre closed to traffic

  For Corpus Domini 2026, on Friday 5 June from 20:30 (Corteo delle Dame) traffic in the centre was blocked, except residents and buses, and diverted to the Campo della Fiera, Via Roma and ex Caserma Piave car parks. On Sunday 7 June no vehicles could use the Corteo Storico route from 8:00 to 14:00, and from 9:00 to 14:00 the Porta Maggiore–Piazza della Repubblica–Piazza Cahen–Via Roma–Corso Cavour–Via Postierla axis was closed.
