• Camera-controlled ZTL at six gates since 1 May 2026

  Since 1 May 2026 access to the historic-centre ZTL has been camera-controlled at six gates: Porta San Giovanni, Bonda/Piandornella, Via Santa Caterina, Via di Quercecchio, Porta San Matteo and Via di Bagnaia. The cameras normally operate every day from 9:30 to 5:30 the next morning, unless the town council decides otherwise for events or particular periods.

• Hotel guests in the ZTL: time slots and plate registration

  Guests of accommodation based in the ZTL may drive in freely from 5:30 to 9:30, but the property must register their plate in advance on the Polizia Locale portal. From 15:00 to 20:00 only a brief stop (no parking) is allowed in the secondary streets, Via del Castello and Piazza della Cisterna, again with prior registration; guests staying at least 5 nights get one extra entry a day besides arrival and departure.

• 30 km/h in the ZTL, no motorhomes or caravans

  Inside the ZTL the speed limit is 30 km/h, and motorhomes and caravans, buses, road trains, articulated vehicles and lorries over 6 tonnes may not enter (the latter unless the Polizia Locale authorises them for specific needs).

• Car parks P1–P4: 2026 rates

  At P1 Giubileo you pay €2 for the first and second hour and €1.50 for each further hour, at most €7 on the first day and no more than €1 from 20:00 to 8:00. At P2 Montemaggio it is €3 for the first hour, €2.50 for the second and then €2, at P3 and P4 Bagnaia €2.50 for each of the first two hours and then €2: both are capped at €15 on the first day and €5 from 20:00 to 8:00.

• Parking passes for guests of local accommodation

  Guests of participating accommodation can use passes: SMALL for P1 Giubileo at €9 for 2 days and €12 for 3 (plus €3 per extra day), and MEDIUM and LARGE, also valid at Bagnaia and, for LARGE, at Montemaggio, at €18 for 2 days and €23 for 3 (plus €5 a day). They are issued by the property or by the Comune's mobility office on request to [email protected] at least 4 days before arrival, with a €5 deposit.

• Bypass road and nine traffic info panels

  The outer bypass built in 2024 by the Province of Siena links the north and south of San Gimignano without crossing the urban stretch of the SP1. Nine Info Mobilità panels, at the roundabouts at Strada and on the SP47, at Fugnano and at the entrances to the Giubileo, Baccanella, Piazzale Martiri di Montemaggio and Bagnaia car parks, give up-to-date parking and traffic information.

• Summer 2026: SG2 bus from the Giubileo car park

  From 11 June to 14 September 2026, urban line SG2 linked Santa Lucia with the Giubileo car park and Porta San Giovanni Monday to Saturday 9:15–20:06 and on public holidays 9:05–19:56. The SGN night line left Le Mosse at 21:00, with the last run at 23:40 from Piazzale Martiri di Montemaggio towards Santa Lucia.
